It's always a pain to start a new week after a long weekend and that's why I'm here. To tell you about my latest read and keep you company on the bus, on the train or while enjoying a cappuccino .
Today I want to talk you about "I'M TRAVELLING ALONE " published by RandomHouse Australia and written by the Norwegian Samuel Bjørk .
A harsh novel not suitable for those who easly upsetable but that rewards the brave readers with a story out of the box that makes of I'M TRAVELLING ALONE one book of its kind: unsettling but beautiful.

The story features Holger Munch, Norwegian police investigator in charge of a special investigation unit of Oslo police. loner, a lover of puzzles, divorced, big smoker and heavily overweight, apparently a jovial person but knows perfectly how to hide a huge hole inside.
When the body of a six year old girl was found hanging from a tree in a clearing, Holger is invoked to create a special investigation team formed by people personally selected by him and with him working on cases difficult to solve. As in this new and cruel investigation where the only track available to the team, is a label tied to the young victim's neck with the inscription "I'm travelling alone."
A case to which Holger Munch can not work without the most valuable element of his team, Mia Kruger. For this, I start a journey that will take him to the solitary island where Mia lives, with the hope to convince her to join the investigation and that she is the one and only able to make the difference. Mia finally agrees to join the team and will be the smallest clueleft by the killer that will help Mia understand with absolute certainty that this victim will not be the only one ....

It was not easy to read this thriller because of the topic and the involvement of children that shakes the most hardened hearts. But it is also true that once started the narrative ability to Bjørk stick to you, and it is impossible to stop. The perfect storytelling of places and characters make you personally experience this troubled investigation. The perfect view of the whole does not let you breathe until thevery end.
Winning element of this novel is Mia Kruger. For me, she is the female version of the character created by Jo Nesbo: the detective Harry Hole. Highly intuitive, lonely and unable to relate with colleagues but with a great investigative mind. After the death of his sister, Mia falls into a deep depression that leads to the farest limits of self-harm . With alcohol and drugs she is heading toward the brink of self-destruction.

I found the style of Samuel Bjork, like that of many other Nordic colleagues, very similar to that of Nesbo. Blunt, raw and hard.

A book impossible to put down, and impossible to forget..watch out, Nesbo!
